What is the "point" system?
The basic idea behind our "point" system is to influence members to
volunteer for club activities by earning points that will enable them to
attend the "Workers" party at little or no cost. This annual event
is a day-long affair with plenty of hot food and cold beverages normally
leading up to a main course which, in past years, has ranged from boiled live
lobsters to grilled-to-order steaks. Remember, you need a minimum of four
points in order to be eligible to attend the "workers" party.
How can these points be earned?
Points are earned by volunteering your time to various club sponsored
activities at a rate of one point per hour worked. Sign-up sheets are posted
in the clubhouse well in advance of an upcoming event and are normally marked
off in four hour work shifts beginning with pre-event set-up through
post-event clean-up. Generally, 3 or 4 people are needed per shift; this
gives everyone a chance to earn points and allows people to sign up with a
friend or spouse in order to work the same shift. Signing up for one of our
fishing derbies is not the only way a member can earn points. The Club
schedules Spring and Fall clean-ups for our clubhouse and grounds as well as
an annual Nashawannuck Pond clean-up prior to the Trout Derby. Helping with
the newsletter or serving on a club committee earns points, and volunteering
to Chair or co-Chair an event earns you extra points.
Who keeps track of the points?
All points earned during an event are recorded by the Chair of that event but
the ultimate responsibility for being sure that the points you earn are
properly credited is yours. Always double-check with the event's Chairperson
that your name and point total is duly recorded.
What if someone earns more or less than the 15 points required?,
Member #1 has earned 8 points and wishes to attend the workers party. #1 can
purchase the remaining 7 points he needs at $1.00 each. Remember, you must
have earned at least 4 points before you are allowed to purchase the balance
needed to reach the 15 points necessary to attend the party.
Member #2 has earned 20 points, 5 more than needed. In this case, #2 goes to
the party for free and is allowed to transfer the extra 5 points to a family
member or significant other. The recipient of these 5 points can add them to
his/her total and purchase any remaining points needed to bring his/her total
to 15.
Points earned in excess of 15 may be transferred only to a spouse or
significant others.
